Keller Stonebraker began in 1901 when Hagerstown resident C. Harry Keller formed the agency.  The current executive officers, John L. Schnebly and Gerald W. Spessard, have been with the firm for more than 25 years and have been actively engaged in the community during that time.

Schnebly is currently a member of the executive committee of the Greater Hagerstown Committee, immediate past president of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development commission, and is a former Hagerstown city councilman and Washington County commissioner.  Spessard has served on numerous community boards including Washington County United Way, the Hagerstown Community College Foundation, and the Hagerstown Rotary Club.

The firm’s ownership has recently changed in a transition aimed at preparing for the future.  Since 1998, Keller Stonebraker has been an affiliate of Farmers and Mechanics bank of Frederick.  This year, the agency was purchased from the bank by Schnebly and a group of its managers.  The new owners include John L. Schnebly, Marcia K. Baker, Michael D. Cumberland, Kent R. Reynolds, Deborah C. Hebb, W. Richard Buchanan and a corporate capital partner.

Keller Stonebraker now employs 41 people and operates from four offices in Hagerstown, Frederick, Cumberland, and Keyser, WV.  The staff has more than 700 years of combined experience in the insurance business, and the agency dedicates significant annual resources to continuing technical training for its personnel.  This assures that the firm’s clients will interact with highly knowledgeable and professional advisors at all times.

Always striving to make the best possible use of technology to serve customers, the firm is currently working to provide customer access to agency services on a round-the-clock basis.  The firm has recently installed a new system that allows group health clients 24/7 access to benefit plan and human resources compliance data via a direct internet site.
