With roots in the area since 1901, Keller Stonebraker is a full-service, independent insurance agency with four offices in two states — Maryland and West Virginia. Today, the company underwrites more than $38 million annually in premiums and employs over 40 people. Our success has been built on the strength of our customer service. And while much has changed over the years, our dedication to professionalism has not. More than 100 years later, we still place a strong emphasis on developing the professional competency of our staff, investing annually in continuing education for our employees. Our sustained investment in employee education assures that customers have access to comprehensive and up-to-date advice on any insurance or risk management issue.

A Long & Distinguished History

In 1901, C. Harry Keller, a Hagerstown banker, formed an insurance agency. Shortly thereafter, George Stonebraker joined him and the Keller Stonebraker agency was born. The agency grew through a series of acquisitions in the 1980s and was, for a time, a subsidiary of Farmers & Mechanics Bank of Frederick. The consistency and quality of service is enhanced by the long tenure of many team members, including President John Schnebly, who joined the firm in 1975, and Executive Vice President Gerald Spessard, who came on board in 1981. Today, the agency is owned by a group of its local managers and a capital partner. The owners include Marcia Baker, Ric Buchanan, Mike Cumberland, Debbie Hebb, Kent Reynolds, and John Schnebly.

Growing Strong

Originally, Keller Stonebraker sold property and casualty products to personal and commercial customers. In 1987, the firm introduced life and health insurance lines to complement its other products. In 1991, the main office moved into a modern 8,000 square foot office facility on Eastern Boulevard in Hagerstown. Besides the main office in Hagerstown, the firm has branch operations in Frederick, Cumberland, and Keyser, West Virginia, positioning Keller Stonebraker for another century of outstanding service to our customers.
